The Art of Floral Arrangement

Due to the ongoing rise in the Omicron strand of COVID-19 we are postponing the start of any in-person events at Tzu Chi Center. More information will be shared soon.

In this in-person, four-part class, you’ll learn the theory and craft of arranging flowers from East Asia. You will learn about specific flowers, how to examine their shapes, and how they combine with other flowers and natural elements to achieve balance and harmony. You will also learn to use tools and ancient techniques that have been developed over centuries in the East. At the end of each session, you may bring your arrangements home to share with your loved ones.

Rae Melnyk (鄭瑞杏) has studied and practiced the ancient art of flower arranging for more than twenty years across Taiwan, Japan, and the US. She has participated in annual exhibitions, taught workshops around the country, and is a certified Ikebana (or Japanese flower arranging) professor. Mrs. Melnyk earned her Bachelor’s degree in the US and has retired from a career as an engineer. Her other passions and skills include brush calligraphy, playing the guzheng (a Chinese plucked string instrument), and gardening.
