About Dr. Peter Singer

Dr. Peter Singer is a renowned moral philosopher, labeled by Time100 and various journalists as the “world’s most influential living philosopher.” As an accomplished author and professor as well, he is revered for his work on the ethics of our treatment of animals, and has had an influence through his writing on the development of effective altruism.

For 25 years, Dr. Singer was Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University. Having been involved in publishing over 50 books, his book Animal Liberation from 1975 led to him co-founding the Australian Federation of Animal Societies, now Animals Australia, the country’s largest and most effective animal organization.

In 2021, he was a recipient of the Berggruen Prize for Philosophy and Culture, and he is also the founder of The Life You Can Save, an organization based on his book of the same name aimed at spreading ideas about how we should be doing more to improve the lives of people living in extreme poverty and how we can best do this. His time is currently devoted to his podcast, his Substack and doing research and writing in Melbourne, Australia.
