Talk Description
The premiere season of C.A.F.E. 229 explores how to transform distress into compassion and on mindful living in action. In this third installment, we are joined by guest speaker Dr. Deborah Middleton, whose talk is called “Awake in the World: Contemplative Arts as Mindfulness in Action.”
In this presentation, she will cover how contemplative arts can be a pathway to develop mindfulness and compassion. Drawing on examples of contemplative writing and performance, Dr. Middleton will look at how the arts can allow us to practice mindfulness-in-action, and how mindfulness leads to the cultivation of heartfelt compassion. She will also consider the particular power of the poetic to awaken our hearts – to each other, and to nature.
